Paying a cheque into an Under 16s account

As your child’s parent or guardian, you’re the main account holder. For this reason, you can’t pay cheques in your child’s name directly into an Under 16s account.

You can pay in cheques in your name. You could then move the money to your Under 16s account.

Here’s how to pay a cheque into your personal or joint account by post

You can also deposit cheques up to £500 with the Monzo app.

Before you start: make sure the cheque has been written correctly.

If there’s a mistake on a cheque we might not be able to pay it into your account. Check that:

  • The name matches the legal name on your account.

  • The date is less than 6 months, and is not a date in the future.

  • The amount is written in words and numbers – and they match.

  • It's in British pounds (£) and pence.

  • It’s been signed by the payer - and by you, if applicable.

  • That you've written your 8-digit account number and 6-digit sort code on the back – you can find these on your Home screen.

  • Take a photo of the front and back, just in case something goes wrong.

  • Choose how to post your cheque.

📮 Send by regular or tracked post – takes 1 to 2 weeks

We recommend using tracked post. Put your cheque in a stamped envelope and send to: Monzo, PO Box 7628, Bilston WV14 4DG

🏤 Send by FREEPOST – takes 3 to 4 weeks

Write FREEPOST MONZO on the envelope – no stamp needed.

We’ll let you know once we’ve got your cheque. It usually takes 3 to 6 working days from that point to get your money.
