Sending money to your child

With an Under 16s account, you can send your child a one-off payment, or schedule regular pocket money. You can also share your child’s payment link with others, which allows friends and family to send money straight to them.

One-off payments

  1. Tap on the Under 16s account you want to add money to.

  2. Tap Move money on their card.

  3. Follow the steps for paying money in.

Pocket money

Follow the above instructions for one-off payments.

To set up regular pocket money, leave the payment reference as Pocket money, turn the Schedule toggle on, and follow the steps for setting up the scheduled payment.

Your child can receive up to £250 in total (not per individual payment) over a 30 day period via their payment link.

  1. Go to the Under 16s account in your app.

  2. Tap the 3 dots on their card.

  3. Go to Share payment link.

  4. Follow the steps to share the link, or reset it.

Cheques

As your child’s parent or guardian, you’re the main account holder. For this reason, you can’t pay cheques in your child’s name directly into an Under 16s account.

You can pay in cheques in your name. You can then move the money to your Under 16s account. Learn more about cheques here.

Family and friends

To keep kids safe, Under 16s accounts don’t have their own account number or sort code. Instead, they’re linked to your Monzo current account.

You can share your child's payment link with friends and family to allow them to send money straight to your child's account.
