Understanding my Under 16s account

Our Under 16s account is the free account for kids aged 6–15 that keeps up as they grow up. There are no up-front costs, subscription or top-up fees.

As the parent or guardian, you’ll be the account owner – any money in your Under 16s account legally belongs to you. You can learn more about FSCS protection here.

They’ll feel that bit more grown up with their own neon card to use online and in store. They can see their spending in the app if they have a device – we’ve made it child-friendly for them. Meanwhile, you can keep an eye on things. See their transactions in your app, set spending limits and schedule pocket money.

Keep a close eye on their spending with instant notifications

It’s easier to talk about money when you’re both in the loop. You can see your child’s spending in your Monzo app and, if you have notifications switched on, receive instant notifications when your child spends.

Set limits to ease them into independence

If you need to, you can set a daily spending limit for your child. Use customisable controls to turn cash withdrawals and online payments on or off.

Kick-start their saving skills with Pots

You and your child can put money aside in Pots and set goals, whether they’re saving for the future or something on their wish list. Parents and guardians can also lock Pots – handy if the money’s for something important.

Safety’s a breeze with cards you can freeze

No need to panic if they lose their card – you can freeze it in just 3 taps. Tap to defrost if it turns up again, or order them a replacement card.

ℹ️ A few things to know: Children must be aged 6–15, and you’ll need a parent/guardian account. Ts&Cs apply, UK residents only.
