Joining an existing Under 16s account

If your child is already linked to an Under 16s account, ask the main account holder to invite you to join as a family member.

You’ll first need to make sure you’re findable by phone number. To check your settings:

  • Go to Settings

  • Go to Privacy & security

  • Go to Profile privacy and then Phone number. Make sure it’s turned on.

The main account holder can then:

  • Go to the Under 16s account in their app.

  • Tap the 3 dots on the child’s card.

  • Go to Manage account.

  • Under Helping with this account they’ll find Add a family member.

  • If they have multiple children, they’ll then be able to select which children you can help with.

  • If you share a joint account, we’ll ask if they’d like to invite you.

  • If you don’t share a joint account, we’ll show them their Monzo contacts. They might need to Enable contacts if they haven’t already.

  • Follow the instructions to send you an invitation.

Remember to only accept an invitation from someone you know and trust. You’ll be notified once someone invites you as a family member.

To accept or decline:

  • Tap the notification to see more information about the invitation, including which children you’ll be able to help with.

  • Accept or decline the invitation.

  • If you accept, follow the instructions to add the Under 16s account to your app.

  • If you decline, the main account holder will be able to invite you again if you change your mind.
