Make the most of Monzo Split

Monzo Split is a feature that lets you Split, track, and chase payments, all in one safe place – even if you don’t bank with Monzo.

A Single Split is a way to split a one off payment with a friend, like a taxi ride or a lunch. A Running split is for ongoing, shared payments, like household bills or group holiday costs.

A Running Split is a way to to track ongoing costs for things like household bills or group holiday costs. Add anyone – even if they’re not on Monzo – and you can track, split and manage expenses.

How do I Split a single payment?

  1. Tap on the relevant payment from your list of transactions and then you should see Split this bill in the available actions

  2. Pick who to split the bill with from Nearby Friends or Monzo contacts. If your friends aren't on Monzo tap Next then Add someone not on Monzo.

  3. Choose to split the payment equally or edit the amounts.

  4. Tap Request money. Your friends on Monzo will get a notification to accept the request. If they aren't on Monzo, you can tap Share a request link and choose how you want to send it.

How do I find my existing Single Splits?

  1. Go to the payments tab

  2. Scroll down to Monzo Split

  3. You can see your existing splits here, if you have more than 3 shared payments you can scroll and select see all

How do I cancel a Single Split?

You can only withdraw a request if the person you're splitting the bill with is a Monzo customer too.

To cancel a Single Split, simply tap on the Edit option while on the overview screen of the Split, and then select Cancel Single Split.

You cannot cancel a Single Split request with non-Monzo customers.

How to create a Running Split

You can open a Running Split to track ongoing costs for things like household bills or trips abroad. Add anyone – even if they’re not on Monzo – and you can track, split and manage expenses. When you’re ready to settle up, we’ll do the math for you.

  1. head to the Payments tab in the app

  2. scroll down to the Monzo Split section

  3. tap Split Payment or tap on the 3 dots

  4. tap Split and track ongoing costs

  5. give your Running Split a name and tap Next

  6. Pick the people you’d like to add from your contacts list and then tap Create Split. (There will also be an option to Add someone not on Monzo once the Split is created.)

  7. tap add to add expenses you want to share.

  8. When you’re ready to settle, tap Settle up

By default we’ll split the payments evenly, but you can adjust the amount yourself too. You can also add payments directly from your details screen.
