Choosing investments for a Junior ISA
When you open a Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, you’ll choose how to invest your child’s money.
Before choosing, it can help to think about how long the money could be invested and how much investment risk you’re comfortable taking.
Think about how long the money could be invested
Your child can’t take money out of their Junior ISA until they turn 18. So if they’re young, their money could be invested for many years.
Investments will go up and down during that time. Having longer to invest gives investments more time to recover from falls in value - but there’s no guarantee they will.
As your child gets closer to 18, there’s less time for their investments to recover from any falls.
Understand the risk
Different investments come with different levels of risk and potential return.
Generally, investments with more potential for growth can also have bigger ups and downs in value.
You can check what each investment holds, its risk level and its charges in the Monzo app before you choose. Learn more about investment risk.
You can change your investments later
You don’t have to stick with your first choice. As the registered contact, you can see and change how your child’s Junior ISA is invested in the Monzo app.
Remember, investments can go down as well as up, and returns aren’t guaranteed.
