Paying someone when we can’t check the account by Confirmation of Payee

When you make a bank transfer with Monzo, we check that the account holder name you type in matches the name on the account. This name-checking service is called ‘Confirmation of Payee’, and it’s a way to make sure you’re paying the right person.

There are times when we can’t do the check – for example, if the bank you’re trying to pay into isn’t signed up to Confirmation of Payee. This doesn’t mean that the details don’t match, but in these cases we can’t give more information.

If you’re worried that it might be a scam, read this advice on how to spot a scam.
