Paying someone who’s chosen not to be checked by Confirmation of Payee

When you make a bank transfer with Monzo, we check that the account holder name you type in matches the name on the account. This name-checking service is called ‘Confirmation of Payee’, and it’s a way to make sure you’re paying the right person.

If the person you’re paying has chosen not to be checked, we won’t be able to tell you if the details match. There are a few reasons why someone could ask their bank to keep their details anonymous – like if they’re a person of public interest.

This is also something that fraudsters do, so make sure you know the person you’re paying, and that the payment is reasonable. Here’s some useful advice on how to spot a scam.
