How we can support you if you’re going to prison
During a difficult time, the last thing you want to worry about is your bank account. This guide will help you get things prepared so your finances stay secure while you're away.
💳 Preparing your payments
Getting your finances in order before you go can make a big difference for you and your family:
Review your payments: Cancel any non-essential Direct Debits, standing orders, or card subscriptions (like streaming services).
Cover the essentials: ensure there’s enough money in your account to cover priority bills like rent or a mortgage.
Talk to your providers: Let utility companies or landlords know your situation so they can update their records.
Manage your debt: If you have a Monzo Loan, Monzo Flex, or an Overdraft, please get in touch. Our dedicated team is here to help find a solution that works for you.
👥 Giving a trusted person access to your account:
Since you won’t be able to see your account while you’re in prison, you can choose someone you trust to help pay your bills:
Ordinary Power of Attorney: The fastest legal way to let someone manage day-to-day banking. You should sign this before you go to prison.
Read-only informal access: A good option if you don’t want someone spending your money, but do want them to be able to talk to us about your account.
📭 Talking to us from prison
You won’t have access to the Monzo app while you're in prison.
If you need to contact us: Please write to us at Monzo Bank Limited, Broadwalk House, 5 Appold St, London, EC2A 2ER.
What to include: Please include your full legal name, date of birth, and your prisoner number. This helps us make sure we’re talking to the right person.
