I sent a bank transfer to the wrong account details

If you sent money to the wrong account by mistake, we can send a claim to the other bank to try to get it back.

Send us these details to make a claim

  • The date you made the payment and how much it was for

  • The full name of the person you meant to send the money to

  • Their correct account number and sort code

  • The reason you made the payment incorrectly

What happens next depends on whether the money’s still in the other person’s account or not.

The money’s still in the other person’s account

Their bank will set it aside it so they can’t spend it. And they’ll give them 20 working days to either confirm that they received it by mistake or dispute it.

If they don’t dispute it, their bank will return the money to us and we’ll put it back into your account straight away.

The money isn’t in the other person’s account

We won’t be able to get the money back if it’s no longer in the account of the person you sent it to.
