Sending Japanese Yen (JPY) payments
This guide is to help you with sending JPY payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.
Can I send JPY payments to a business?
✅ Yes, you can send JPY payments to an individual or a business.
Is the name I use on a payment checked?
✅ Yes. It’s really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will likely be returned.
What details do I need to use?
Recipient type (Person/Business)
Full recipient/business name (usually in Katakana). This must match exactly what is printed on the first inside page of the bankbook. Name order is family name + first/given name
Bank name or branch (in English, Katakana, Kanji or provide a bank or branch code)
Branch name
Account type (Futsuu = General savings, Chochiku = Deposit savings, Touza = Checking/current)
Account number (usually 7 digits)
Recipient country
Reference (optional, up to 20 characters)
Purpose of the transfer
How much money can I send?
You can send up to ¥159,000,000 per transfer.
How long will my payment take?
Most payments arrive within 1 hour, and nearly all arrive within 6 hours.
In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 2 working days.
You can see how long we expect your payment to take before you send it in the app, and after you’ve sent it by tapping it in your feed.
How will my payment be sent?
We’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through Zengin or SWIFT with partner banks in Japan.
If your transfer is over ¥150,000,000, we'll send it via SWIFT. Otherwise, we’ll use Zengin.
When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?
Payments must be made before 06:00 GMT to go out on the same day.
Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?
✅ Yes, but only if you think it’s fraud. Let us know right away so we can help.

Other useful information
We cannot accept the recipient's name in Kanji, it must be Katakana or Romaji.
Recipient details must match 100% with bank records. Anything entered incorrectly can cause the payment to bounce back.
