Sending Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) payments

This guide is to help you with sending HKD payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.

Can I send HKD payments to a business?

Yes, you can send HKD payments to an individual or a business.

Is the name I use on a payment checked?

Yes. The recipient’s name has to 100% match what is on their account. It’s really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will likely be returned.

What details do I need to use?

If you’re sending via FPS ID

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient name

  • Email, FPS ID or mobile number

  • Recipient country

If you’re sending via Local bank account

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient name

  • Bank name (3 digits)

  • Local account number (9 to 12 digits)

  • Recipient country

How much money can I send?

If you’re sending via FPS ID You can send up to HK$1,000,000 per transfer.

If you’re sending via Local bank account You can send up to HK$10,000,000 per transfer.

How long will my payment take?

Most payments arrive within seconds, and nearly all arrive within 12 hours.

In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 1 working day.

You can see how long we expect your payment to take before you send it in the app, and after you’ve sent it by tapping it in your feed.

How will my payment be sent?

We’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through the Faster Payments Service (FPS) or Clearing House Automated Transfer System (CHATS) networks with partner banks in Hong Kong.

If the payment is over HK$1,000,000, we’ll send it through CHATS.

When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?

There is no cut off time. Any payment you make will go out on the same day you send it.

Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?

Yes, if you’ve used the wrong name/account number or if you think it’s fraud. Let us know right away so we can help.
