Sending Euro (EUR) payments

This guide is to help you with sending EUR payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.

Can I send EUR payments to a business?

Yes, you can send EUR payments to an individual or a business.

Is the name I use on a payment checked?

🟠 Sometimes, only if the payment was sent to a country outside of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA). It’s really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will likely be returned.

What details do I need to use?

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient name (up to 140 characters and A-Z only)

  • SWIFT code (8 to 11 characters, only if you’re sending to a country outside of the EU/EEA)

  • IBAN (number of characters varies from country to country)

  • Recipient country

  • Reference (optional, up to 35 characters)

How much money can I send?

Countries inside the EU/EEA You can send up to €6,000,000 per transfer.

Countries outside the EU/EEA There’s no limit on sending EUR payments outside of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA).

How long will my payment take?

Countries inside the EU/EEA Most payments arrive within seconds, and nearly all arrive within 1 working day.

In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 2 working days.

Countries outside the EU/EEA Most payments arrive within 2 working days, and nearly all arrive within 4 working days

How will my payment be sent?

Countries inside the EU/EEA Within the EU/EEA, we’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) scheme with partner banks across Europe.

Sometimes our partner banks might need to send your payment through the SWIFT network, which means it can take longer.

We might do this if the recipient bank isn’t connected to the SEPA network, if the amount is over €6,000,000 or if our partner banks don’t have a relationship with the receiving bank.

Countries outside the EU/EEA Outside of the EU/EEA, we’ll send your payment through the SWIFT network with partner banks across Europe.

When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?

SEPA Credit Transfer payment Payments must be made before 16:45 GMT to go out on the same day.

SEPA Instant payment There is no cut off time. Any payment you make will go out on the same day you send it.

Countries outside of the EU/EEA Payments must be made before 14:15 GMT to go out on the same day.

Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?

If you’re sending to a country inside the EU/EEAYes, you can recall a payment for any reason.

Other useful information

  • You can tell if the transfer you’re sending is instant or not by checking the estimated timeframe before you submit the payment in the app. Most banks in the EU/EEA can accept instant payments.

  • You can only send SWIFT payments to countries outside of the EU/EEA.

  • Some SWIFT payments might have added fees because they travel through the international banking system.
