Sending Egyptian Pound (EGP) payments

This guide is to help you with sending EGP payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.

Can I send EGP payments to a business?

🟠 Yes, you can send EGP payments to an individual or business but you can’t send business payments to a charity or trust.

Is the name I use on a payment checked?

Yes. It’s really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will likely be returned.

What details do I need to use?

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient name (up to 70 characters, A-Z only)

  • IBAN (29 characters, starting with EG)

  • Recipient country

  • Purpose of the transfer

  • Reference (optional, up to 50 characters)

How much money can I send?

You can send up to E£5,000,000 per transfer.

How long will my payment take?

Most payments arrive within 1 working day, and nearly all arrive within 2 working days.

In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 3 working days.

You can see how long we expect your payment to take before you send it in the app, and after you’ve sent it by tapping it in your feed.

How will my payment be sent?

We’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through the Instant Payment Network (IPN), Egypt Automated Clearing House (EG-ACH) or Egypt Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) networks with partner banks in Egypt.

If your payment is over E£70,000 or the recipient bank doesn’t accept IPN payments, we’ll send through EG-ACH.

If the payment is over E£100,000, we might send it through EG-RTGS instead.

When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?

Payments must be made before 10:50 GMT to go out on the same day.

Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?

No. You can’t recall an EGP payment you’ve made by mistake under any circumstances.

Other useful information

  • References are sent to the recipient via email and are only forwarded once. If a transfer bounces back, the reference won’t be forwarded again.
