Sending Canadian Dollar (CAD) payments

This guide is to help you with sending CAD payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.

Can I send CAD payments to a business?

Yes, you can send CAD payments to an individual or a business.

Is the name I use on a payment checked?

No. As there are no name checks, it's really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will still go through.

What details do I need to use?

If you're sending via Local bank account

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient/business name

  • Institution number (3 digits)

  • Transit number (5 digits)

  • Local account number (7 to 12 digits)

  • Recipient country

  • Reference

If you’re sending via Interac

  • Recipient type (Person/Business)

  • Full recipient name

  • Email address (must match the email registered with Interac)

  • Recipient country

  • Reference

How much money can I send?

If you’re sending via Local bank account There’s no limit on Local bank account payments.

If you’re sending via Interac You can send up to CA$25,000 per transfer.

How long will my payment take?

Most payments arrive within 6 hours, and nearly all arrive within 1 working day.

In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 2 working days.

You can see how long we expect your payment to take before you send it in the app, and after you’ve sent it by tapping it in your feed.

How will my payment be sent?

We’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) network or Interac with our partner banks in Canada. It depends on what you tap when setting up the payee.

When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?

If you’re sending via Local bank account Payments must be made before 23:00 GMT to be sent out on the same day.

If you’re sending via Interac There’s no cut off time. Any payment you make will be made on the same day you send it.

Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?

Yes, if you sent the payment via Local bank account. If you’ve sent the payment via Interac, we cannot recall the payment.

⏰ We can only send the recall within 3 days of you sending the payment.

Other useful information

For Interac payments, we'll email the recipient a 6 digit PIN. They’ll get a link from Interac in a separate email and need to follow it and enter the PIN from us. If they don't claim the money in 3 days or enter the PIN incorrectly 3 times, the money will be returned.
