Sending Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) payments

This guide is to help you with sending BDT payments. It has all the information you need to know, including when you can usually expect it to arrive and what you can do if it doesn’t.

Can I send BDT payments to a business?

No, you can only send BDT payments to an individual.

Is the name I use on a payment checked?

Yes. It’s really important that you use the correct account number. If the incorrect account number is used and it belongs to someone else, the payment will likely be returned.

What details do I need to use?

If you're sending via Local bank account

  • Recipient type (Person)

  • Full recipient name (up to 80 characters, A-Z only)

  • Bank name

  • Branch name

  • Account number

  • Recipient country

  • Reference (optional, up to 35 characters)

If you’re sending via Bkash

  • Recipient type (Person)

  • Full recipient name (up to 80 characters, A-Z only)

  • Bkash account number (phone number starting with 880)

  • Recipient country

  • Reference (optional, up to 35 characters)

How much money can I send?

If you're sending via Local bank account You can send up to ৳995,000 per transfer.

If you’re sending via Bkash You can send up to ৳122,500 per day or ৳450,000 per month.

If you’re sending more than your transfer limit on the Monzo app, you’ll need to request a limit increase from us before you put your payment through.

How long will my payment take?

If you’re sending via Local bank account Most payments arrive within 1 working day, and nearly all arrive within 2 working days.

In some cases, because of bank holidays or if there are any extra checks on the payment it can take up to 3 working days.

You can see how long we expect your payment to take before you send it in the app, and after you’ve sent it by tapping it in your feed.

If you’re sending via Bkash Most payments arrive within seconds, and nearly all arrive within 12 hours.

How will my payment be sent?

We’ll send your payment as a local bank transfer through the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) or National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) with partner banks in Bangladesh.

We’ll only send through BEFTN if the person you’re sending to can’t receive payments through NPSB.

When do I have to make a payment for it to be sent out on the same day?

If you're sending via Local bank account Payments must be made before 06:00 GMT to go out on the same day.

If you’re sending via Bkash There is no cut off time. Any payment you make will go out on the same day you send it.

Can I trace a payment to check if it has been received?

Yes. If a payment is showing as sent in your app but the person you paid hasn't received it, please get in touch with us and we'll trace the payment for you.

Can I recall a payment I made by mistake?

Yes, but only if you think it’s fraud. Let us know right away so we can help.

Other useful information

If you’re a Bangladeshi national working abroad, the person you're paying can claim a 2.5% cash incentive on payments you send back to Bangladesh. If you’re sending over ৳500,000, their bank will ask them for some documents about you within 5 working days.

They'll need:

  • Your passport

  • Your appointment letter

  • Your certificate from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET)


  • Your copy of your trade licence (if the money comes from a business)

Their bank usually takes about 2 working days to check these. Once they approve the documents, the money will arrive in the account in 1–2 working days.

If the person you're paying doesn't hear about these documents, please ask them to check with their bank.
