Setting up your Monzo Mobile eSIM

An eSIM is a SIM that's built into your phone. It works the same way as a regular SIM – it connects you to a mobile network so you can make calls, send texts, and use data. The only difference is there's nothing to post, insert, or swap.

Before you start, connect to Wi-Fi or make sure you've got a strong signal.

On iPhone

  1. Start from the Monzo app. We'll take you to Settings > Mobile Service (or Cellular), with your Monzo plan ready to add.

  2. Follow the on-screen steps to add your Monzo eSIM. Your iPhone might ask you a few setup questions, and they don't always appear or come in the same order:

    • If it asks "Where will you use this eSIM?", choose Home. This is your everyday plan, not a travel eSIM.

    • If it asks you to label your lines, give each one a name so you can tell them apart, like Personal or Work. It's only a label and doesn't change how the line works.

    • If it asks you to pick a default or primary line, choose which line to use for calls, texts, iMessage, FaceTime and data. If Monzo is your main line, choose Monzo for all of them. If you're transferring your number, keep your current SIM as your default until the transfer's finished, then switch to Monzo.

You can change any of this later in Settings > Mobile Service.

On Android

  1. Start from the Monzo app. We'll take you to your SIM settings.

  2. When you're asked to let your operator set up an eSIM, tap Yes.

  3. Follow the prompts to install your Monzo eSIM.

  4. Choose which line to use for calls, texts and mobile data. If you're transferring your number, keep your current SIM as your default until the transfer's finished, then switch to Monzo.
