Closing your account

There's some information we need to let you know before you close your account; instructions on how to close it are at the end of this page. If you have a Monzo Plus, Premium, Extra, Perks or Max subscription you’ll need to cancel that first.

If you've already closed your account, you can request for your data to be deleted via help@monzo.com or by calling us on 0800 802 1281. You do not need to have app access to do that.


Statements Once you've closed your account we’ll email you to confirm that, and attach a PDF version of your bank statement showing your full payment transaction history. This document will be password protected, and we’ll send the password to open it to you in a text message.

Please make sure that your email address and phone number are up to date in the app before closing your account to ensure that you receive this.


Re-opening your account If you decide you want to re-open your account at a later date you will need to wait at least 30 days from the date of closure and there are no guarantees that we'll be able to re-open your account for you.


Monzo Plus,Premium, Extra, Perks or Max If you have a Monzo Plus, Premium, Extra, Perks or Max you’ll need to cancel that before you close your account.

Pots If you have a fixed term pot you will not be able to close your account until the pot matures. If you use the Current Account Switching Service (CASS) to close your account the money from your fixed term pot will transfer to your new account when it matures.

If you have an easy access pot you will need to close this pot first. Once the balance has reached your account (the next working day) as well as any interest (usually the second working day of the month), you can close your account.


If you’d still like to proceed with closing your account please complete the below steps:

  1. Bring your account balance to £0 (this includes withdrawing the balance of your Pots)

  2. Tap on your profile icon (if you can’t see that, swipe down on your card)

  3. If needed, tap on the settings cog

  4. Tap 'Close account' to get started
