Can I transfer a pension from overseas?
We accept transfers from pension schemes that are recognised as 'qualifying recognised overseas pension schemes’ or QROPS.
Find a list of QROPS on the government website. The list is updated twice a month, and sometimes at short notice to temporarily remove schemes while reviews are carried out.
HMRC cannot guarantee you don’t need to pay UK tax on overseas transfers. It’s your responsibility to find out if you have to pay tax on any transfer of pension savings.
If you’re unsure, we suggest speaking to a financial advisor, who can help you make the right decision for your situation. You can find regulated and impartial advisers through the MoneyHelper website. Or, if you’re over 50 you can get free and impartial guidance through Pension Wise. How long does an overseas transfer take? The timescales for an overseas pension transfer can be very long (several months) and the scheme needs to stay on the list for the whole transfer.
