Tips for being extra safe on Monzo Business for web

We recently launched web access for business accounts, which we wrote about in this blog post. This means business customers can now manage their money from anywhere – whether that's at home, in the office, or on the go.

Although this can be handy, there are some risks that come with it too. For example, fraudsters sometimes build fake websites you could be tricked into thinking was Monzo. Or they might phone you pretending to be us, and try to convince you to give them your personal information.

To help keep your account safe online, we have a bunch of security measures both on and off screen. Like logging in via email rather than using passwords, and needing your phone to confirm it's really you. You can read more about some of the things we do to keep you safe here.

Our top safety tips for managing your finances on the big screen

Make sure you always log in from business.monzo.com

Fake web pages are a common way fraudsters try to get your personal information, and they can be very convincing (see our example below). To check it’s really us, always make sure you’re on business.monzo.com when logging into your business bank account.

We’ll never call without arranging it with you first in the app!

Lots of scams start with a random phone call and a claim about needing to “secure your account.” We’ll never call you unless we’ve arranged it through the Monzo app first, so treat any un-arranged phone calls as suspicious and don’t give out any personal information.

We’ll never ask you for passwords

We don't use passwords at Monzo, so we'll never ask for any email passwords. If you’re ever asked for a password, like in a pop-up or via email or a phone call, don’t give it and let us know by emailing phishing-reports@monzo.com

If you want to test your skills for recognising potentially suspicious phishing emails (fake emails sent by fraudsters trying to get your personal details), check out this phishing quiz.

We’ll never ask for your PIN on a phone call or via email

Sometimes we’ll ask you to enter your PIN in the official Monzo app to confirm it’s you, for example when logging in, or making a payment.  But we’ll never ask you to tell us over email or on a phone call.

Lastly, if it feels fishy, it never hurts to reach out to us!

We’re here to help, so if ever you’re in doubt please chat to us in your app or email help@monzo.com
