How to accept contactless payments

We've teamed up with Stripe so you can accept contactless payments. All you need is a compatible iPhone or Android™ device.

To accept contactless payments, your phone needs to be compatible with near field communication (NFC) technology.

You'll also need to set up a Stripe account. Go to the Get Paid tab in your mobile app and tap Get set up (it's under Accept card payments). We'll send you to Stripe to finish up. They'll ask:

  • about your business

  • yourself (and other people in the business, if it's a limited company)

  • how you want to get paid

When you're set up, go back to the Get Paid tab and tap Accept contactless. Then follow the steps to create a payment link.

Heads up: You'll need to share location permissions to accept contactless payments.

If you're setting up a Stripe account on behalf of the business, you must be an authorised person.

If you get stuck at any point, chat to us in the app. You'll find us at the bottom of the Help tab.

Android

You can accept contactless card payments on all Android devices using Android software 11 and later versions. You'll need mobile data or wifi.

For payments over £100, the cardholder will need to enter their PIN through the Stripe payment terminal.

iPhone

You'll need:

  • an iPhone Xs or later

  • an iPhone operating on iOS 16.7 or later

  • mobile data or wifi

  • a support payment app

To install the latest iOS, on iPhone go to Settings, General, Software Update.

Some payment apps might not accept contactless cards. Transaction limits may also apply. The Contactless Symbol is a trademark owned by and used with permission of EMVCo, LLC. Tap to Pay on iPhone is not available in all markets. View Tap to Pay on iPhone countries and regions.
