Does the other person need my permission to withdraw money?
No. Even if one of you contributes a lot more money to your joint Savings Pot, legally anything in the account is split equally. It’s important you trust who you’re planning to open a joint account with.
How do I close a joint Savings Pot?
Either of you can close a Savings Pot directly in the app - any money in the Pot will then be moved into your joint account.
Do joint Savings Pots impact your credit score?
To have a joint Savings Pot, you will need to have a joint account. When you open a joint account with someone, you keep your own credit scores. They don’t merge, and one person’s score doesn’t directly change the other’s.
You create what’s called a ‘financial association’. This means that things that happen on your joint account – like missing a payment, or going into an unarranged overdraft – can affect your individual scores.
And if you apply for a personal loan, lenders may look at the credit file of the other person on your joint account to help them decide if they can lend to you.
Do I need a personal Monzo account to get a joint account?
Yes, you both need your own personal Monzo account.
What do I need in order to open a joint Savings Pot?
You both need to be UK residents, aged 18+, with Monzo current accounts and a shared joint account.
