Can I receive an international payment in an unsupported currency?
Receiving an international payment in an unsupported currency can be unpredictable.
There’s a chance the payment might not arrive at all. Or it might arrive fine, but be converted into a supported currency by an intermediary bank – which could charge you a fee.
We recommend having the payment converted before it’s sent
If you’re expecting an international payment in a currency we don’t support, we recommend asking the sender to have it converted into British pounds or another supported currency before sending it.
The sender could be charged a fee for converting to British pounds
But it at least guarantees the payment will arrive, and that we won’t charge you any fees when it arrives in your Monzo account.
Converting to another currency could work out cheaper
This could mean two separate currency conversion charges – one for the sender and a 1% currency conversion charge by us. But there are some cases where this still works out cheaper.
