Warnings when making a payment

When you make a payment with Monzo, we use the details you enter to check if it’s a risky payment. We’ll warn you if we think it could be a scam.

If someone phones you claiming to be from Monzo, you can always check this is true in the app with Monzo Call Status:

  • Head to the __Overview (Home) screen __

  • The Monzo Call Status will show if we’re on the phone to you or not.

If the banner says we aren’t talking to you, hang up right away.

  • Monzo Call Status at the top of the page will show if we're talking to you or not. If not, and someone on the phone still says they're from Monzo, you should hang up immediately and contact us in the app chat.

In some cases, we might prevent you from making a payment, for example if we've strong reasons to think that it's a scam. If we don't tell you that you can't make the payment, then it's up to you if you want to proceed after receiving a warning. But if it's a scam, it might not be possible to get your money back.
