How to close your account
We’ve made the difficult decision to say goodbye to the US and we will be closing all US accounts on June 8, 2026.
If you’re ready to close your account, you can follow the instructions below to close your account today.
Before You Close Your Account
To successfully close your account, you’ll need to resolve the following:
1. Your balance must be $0
Transfer any remaining money out of your account
If your balance is negative, you’ll need to repay what you owe first
2. Pending transactions must be cleared
Wait for any pending card payments to be completed or refunded
This includes things like hotel deposits, gas station holds, or delayed charges
3. Cancel your Preferred plan
Cancel your subscription by going to your Profile and tapping Manage Subscription
4. No active subscriptions or scheduled payments
Cancel any subscriptions (e.g. Netflix, Spotify)
Turn off scheduled payments and recurring transfers
Make sure there are no upcoming ACH debits
5. Close or withdraw from Jars and Savings
Empty all money from your Expense or Savings Jars
FYI: Any accrued interest will be paid out when you close your Savings Jars
6. Download anything you need
Once your account is closed, you won’t be able to access it in the app
Download your bank statements if you need them for your records
How to Close Your Account
Once everything above is complete, you can close your account directly in the app:
Open the Monzo app
Tap on your profile icon in the top left
Scroll down and tap Close account
Follow the on-screen instructions
We’ll send a confirmation email once your account has been successfully closed.
Closing a Joint Account
A Joint account can be closed by either account holder at any time as long as the Joint account meets all of the closure requirements listed above (balance at $0, no pending payments, etc.).
You’ll have to close your Joint account prior to closing your Personal account.
How will I get my 2026 1099-INT?
If you’ve earned at least $10 in interest on your Savings Jar, you will receive any applicable 1099-INT tax forms by all state and federal mandated deadlines in 2027. Please let us know if you need to update your contact information to make sure that you receive your forms.
