What to do if you're asked for a SIM PIN or PUK

SIM PIN

You'll only be asked for a SIM PIN if you've turned this security feature on yourself. When you first set it up, enter the default SIM PIN: 0000.

Once it's on, you'll usually be asked for your SIM PIN after your eSIM loses power. That can happen when you:

  • restart or turn off your phone

  • disable your eSIM in your phone's settings

Turning on Airplane mode won't ask for your SIM PIN, because your eSIM stays powered on.

If your SIM locks and you're asked for a PUK

If you enter your SIM PIN wrong three times in a row, your eSIM locks and you'll be asked for a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key).

You might also see the PUK screen later. For example, if you entered your PIN wrong three times, left the eSIM locked, then restarted your phone or disabled and re-enabled your eSIM.

Because Monzo Mobile uses eSIMs, you won't unlock yours with a PUK. Instead, install a new eSIM in the app:

  1. Tap Mobile

  2. Tap Make changes to your plan and view documents

  3. Tap Install SIM

  4. Follow the steps to create and download a new eSIM

  5. Give your new eSIM a name

  6. Delete the old eSIM from your phone

Your old eSIM might still show as enabled on your phone, but it won't be able to connect to the network.
