What does Making Tax Digital mean for me?

It mainly comes down to your gross income from the last tax year.

Sole traders and landlords with a gross income that meets the government thresholds will need to:

  1. keep digital records of income and expenses

  2. send quarterly updates to HMRC

  3. check over numbers and confirm everything’s correct by 31 January the following year.

Tap and it’s with HMRC

Store digital records and send quarterly updates right from where your money is.

Leave behind all the open tabs and passwords that come with juggling different tools and integrations.

All over tax admin

Categorise transactions as you spend, snap receipts on the go and pull in transactions from other accounts.

And choose to automatically put a percentage aside for tax and other big bills every time you get paid, with Tax Pots.

Tax Pots are on Pro and Team, which start from £9 a month. Ts&Cs apply.

Question? Answers.

How does Making Tax Digital work?

HMRC are changing how you report income tax. The tax itself is staying the same. Instead of the annual Self Assessment, you’ll need to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using approved software (like our tool).

Isn't Making Tax Digital already in place?

Modernising the tax system is a big job and so HMRC are going about it in phases, over a few years. This started back in 2019 with Making Tax Digital for Value Added Tax (VAT). Now it’s the turn of income tax, starting in April 2026.
