Activating and managing your Monzo card

This article covers everything you need to know about getting your card ready to use and how to manage it in your app.

Activating Your Card:

When your shiny new card arrives, you'll need to activate it in the Monzo app. Just tap Activate my card, pop in your card number, and you're all set to go! If you have an old card, itโ€™ll stay active until you do this.

Getting Your PIN:

You can check your PIN in the app even before your card is activated. When asked for your CVC, simply tap I don't have my card with me to get past this step and finish the PIN recovery flow.

Freezing and Defrosting Your Card:

You can temporarily freeze your card to stop any payments from being made on it. This is a great way to protect your account if your card is lost or you're worried about fraud. To freeze or defrost it:

  • Tap the Card button on your homescreen.

  • Select Freeze or Defrost.

You'll still be able to receive a refund even when the card you used to pay is frozen.

Blocking Your Card: If we permanently block your card to keep your money safe from fraud, you won't be able to make any new payments (including any using Apple/Google Pay). Your bank transfers and Direct Debits will still work as normal, but you'll need to order a new card.
