Sending and receiving money outside Ireland
Sending and receiving money outside Ireland
Monzo Ireland supports SEPA payments only for sending and receiving money outside Ireland.
This means you can send and receive euro (EUR) payments through SEPA. We don't currently support SWIFT or other international payment networks.
Sending money outside Ireland
You can send EUR to accounts that:
Accept SEPA payments
Are in a SEPA-participating country
Having an IBAN doesn't always mean an account can receive SEPA payments. The receiving account must support SEPA for the transfer to succeed.
How to send a SEPA payment
Go to Payments
Tap Pay someone
Tap Pay someone new
Select Add bank details
Enter the recipient's IBAN and full account name
Check the expected arrival time and confirm the payment
How long do payments take?
If the app shows "Should arrive in seconds", we'll send the payment using SEPA Instant.
If it shows a later arrival time, or no timeframe, we'll send it as a SEPA Credit Transfer. These usually arrive on the same banking day or the next banking day.
Receiving money from abroad
You can receive SEPA payments from accounts in SEPA-participating countries.
BIC
Monzo Ireland's BIC is MONZIE22.
For SEPA payments, you normally only need your IBAN. If the sending bank asks for a BIC, you can give them MONZIE22.
We don't currently support payments sent through SWIFT or other international payment networks. If someone sends money using an unsupported payment method, we won't be able to accept the payment and it will be returned to the sending bank.
