Approving a 3D Secure payment

Some online payments need an extra security step called 3D Secure (3DS) in the Monzo app.

You’ll need to approve the request within 10 minutes for the payment to go through.

Approving the 3DS request confirms it’s you, but the merchant still needs to finish the checkout for the payment to complete.

If you’re paying on your phone, you may need to leave the merchant’s checkout page to approve the request in the Monzo app. Switching apps can sometimes cause the checkout page to time out.

To help it go through:

  • Keep the checkout page open while you approve

  • Approve the request as soon as it appears

  • If you can, try paying on another device (like a laptop/tablet) so the checkout page stays open

If you don’t see a 3DS request:

  • Check Monzo notifications are enabled

  • Make sure your app is up to date

  • Try using mobile data or home Wi-Fi (some work networks can block the authentication window)

If it still doesn’t work, contact the merchant or try another card.
