You’ve decided to open a Monzo account! We’re excited for you to join us, and we’re here to walk you through it.
To get started, you’ll need your phone and ID
To open a Monzo account you need to be at least 16 years old and live in the UK.
You’ll also need your phone and a valid ID. We accept your:
Driving licence (your provisional is fine)
National ID card
Biometric residency permit
Firearm or shotgun certificate
Electoral Identity Card issued by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland
And we'll ask you for an address in the UK where we can send your card.
Opening an account is simple
Let’s get started!
Step 1: Download the Monzo app
Tap the button below on your phone
Or search the App Store or Play Store for Monzo.
Step 2: Follow the instructions to sign up
We'll ask you for some information like your home address, and the email and phone number you want to use with your account.
Step 3: Help us confirm your identity
Because we’re a regulated bank, we have to verify all our customers’ identities. So to help us confirm that you are who you say you are, we ask you to take a selfie video.
We compare this video with your ID, which helps us confirm you’re really you, and that you actually want to open an account.
Step 4: Tell us where to send your card
This can be your home address, or somewhere else.
Once we’ve verified your account, we’ll put your hot coral debit card in the post! It should arrive in a couple of days.
Step 5: Activate your card once it arrives
When your card arrives in the post, activate it by entering your card number into the app (or taking a photo).
While you wait for your card to arrive, you can can even add it to Apple Pay and start using it straight away.
