All about the under 18s account
Under 18 accounts are a free account for children aged 6–17. It’s linked to your Monzo current account, so your child gets their own card and child-friendly app while you stay in control.
As the parent or guardian, you own the account and the money in it. Your child can use their card, see their balance and activity, and use the features available in their app. You can keep an eye on their spending, add money, manage limits and control how the card can be used.
With an under 18s account, your child can:
use their card in shops and online
see their balance and activity in their own app
use Pots, if they’re available in their app
freeze their card if it’s lost
customise parts of their app
use Apple Pay or Google Pay from age 14, if the option shows in their app and their device supports it
They can’t use these features yet:
Bizum
child bank transfers
payment requests
Monzo-to-Monzo payments from the child account
To open an under 18s account, you’ll need a Monzo Spain current account. During sign-up, we’ll ask for your child’s details and an ID document. Spanish citizens need a DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad), EU/EEA or Swiss citizens need a passport or national identity card, and people who aren’t in those groups need a passport or TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero) the
Eligible deposits are protected up to €100,000 per person, per bank. For under 18s accounts, this limit is combined with your other eligible deposits at Monzo.
