Safety features for under 18s accounts

Under 18 accounts are designed to help children learn about money safely, with parent or guardian controls built in.

As the parent or guardian, you can manage your child’s account from your Monzo app. You can add money, set up scheduled pocket money, manage spending limits, control card settings and freeze or defrost the card.

Some safety features are automatic. We block some shops and businesses that aren’t suitable for children. Your child also can’t use Bizum, child bank transfers, payment requests or Monzo-to-Monzo payments from the child account yet.

The limits for Under 18s accounts are:

  • up to €250 a day for spending and cash machine withdrawals

  • note that cash machine withdrawals are capped at €100 a day

You can set their daily spending limit between €5 and €250

Card controls

You can also manage whether your child can use:

  • contactless payments

  • online payments

  • cash withdrawals

Blocked categories

To help keep Monzo safe for children, we automatically block some shops and businesses that aren’t suitable for them. These blocks can’t be removed.
