Helping your teen send money with SEPA payments

Once the primary parent has switched on payments for their teen (available from age 14), given consent and the teen has passed their ID check, the teen can send SEPA Standard and SEPA Instant euro payments to a bank account.

How your teen sends money

  1. In their app, they choose Send.

  2. They enter the payee's IBAN and name.

  3. They check the Verification of Payee name-match result.

  4. They confirm the payment.

Each payment counts towards the daily sending limit set by the primary parent (€0–€200, default €50). The recipient sees the parent or guardian as the legal payment originator; the payment reference identifies the teen and includes any reference the teen entered.

Cross-border payments

The teen can send to accounts in Spain and other SEPA-area countries using the same steps and daily sending limit. It's a euro SEPA transfer either way — there's no separate international journey and no Monzo FX fee.

What isn't supported

  • payments outside the SEPA area or in another currency

  • Direct Debits and Bizum

  • payment requests

  • Monzo-to-Monzo payments from the child account

If a payment won't send, check:

  • the daily sending limit hasn't been reached or set to €0

  • the payee isn't blocked

  • it's a SEPA euro payment

  • there isn't a known SEPA outage or stand-in period — SEPA payments aren't supported in stand-in and are unavailable during that time
