Opening a Monzo personal account

Opening a Monzo account is simple and should take less than 10 minutes once you have the app.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Get your ID ready: You’ll need to be 18 or over and have a valid, unexpired photo ID. The ID we accept depends on your nationality:

    • If you’re a Spanish citizen: DNI

    • If you’re a citizen of an EU/EEA/Swiss country other than Spain: national ID card issued by your own country or passport

    • If you’re a citizen of a non-EU/EEA/Swiss country: TIE or passport

  2. Download the Monzo app: Search for "Monzo" in the App Store or Google Play and download it to your phone.

  3. Tell us about yourself: When you open the app, we'll ask for some basic information like your home address, email, and phone number. We'll also ask a few questions about your occupation and how you plan to use the account.

  4. Confirm your identity: We'll ask you to take a photo of your ID and record a short selfie video to confirm your identity.

  5. Choose Your Account: Browse the different account options we offer and choose the one that's right for you.

  6. Activate Your Card: Once your new card arrives, follow the instructions in the app to activate it. You'll then be ready to start spending, saving, and managing your money with Monzo.
