How to transfer a balance after a death
This guide walks you through how to transfer the remaining balance from a customer’s account. Before starting, you must first report the death.
Balance transfer steps may vary depending on the amount in the account and the documents needed to process the inheritance.
If the balance is below €25,000, you’ll need to fill out the indemnity form and provide the bank details for the transfer.
If the balance is over €25,000, in addition to the indemnity form, we may also need inheritance documents to transfer the money.
In Spain, the documents needed will usually depend on the circumstances, but may include:
the death certificate
the certificate from the Register of Last Wills and Testaments
a copy of the will, or legal evidence of intestacy
the document showing acceptance, division, and award of the inheritance
If you’re not sure about these documents, you can visit Banco de España or Administración.gob.es, contact your legal representative for guidance, or reach out to our team at es.ayuda@monzo.com for support.
After we have everything we need, we can complete the transfer to your requested account. We’ll do this as quickly as possible once the documents have been reviewed.
