What you need to know

These legal terms are between you and Monzo Bank Europe Designated Activity Company (Monzo/us/we) located at Floor 1, 1 Cumberland Place, Fenian Street, Dublin 2, D02 FF20, Ireland.

These terms and conditions explain how the Monzo Winter Cashback offer works and who can take part.

Eligibility

You can earn cashback from Monzo by using your Monzo personal account or joint account if you are:

  • a new Monzo personal banking customer who opens a Monzo account between 2 November 2026 and 31 December 2026 (“Offer Window”); or

  • an existing Monzo customer who refers a friend to Monzo using your Winter Cashback Offer referral link and that friend opens a Monzo personal banking account during the Offer Window.

Young Monzo and Monzo Business accounts are not eligible for this offer.

If you have signed up to Monzo in connection with any other promotion, the terms and conditions of that promotion will apply in respect of the reward offered as part of that promotion.

Cashback

Customers who qualify for this offer can earn 5% cashback on eligible spending (up to a limit of €30) over a sixty day period starting from the date you open your account (for new customers) and the date your referral makes their first card payment after opening their Monzo account using your Winter Cashback referral link during the Offer Window.

You won’t earn cashback on:

  • Non-card payments (such as direct debits or peer to peer payments)

  • Payments to another account or payment card (such as an e-wallet, a bank account or a card account)

  • ATM withdrawals

  • Gambling transactions

  • Cryptocurrency transactions

  • Foreign exchange transactions

  • Transactions which are reversed, refunded or cancelled.

You can opt out of receiving cashback at any time by telling us in the app, but you’ll keep any cashback you’ve already earned or that’s currently pending.

How we pay cashback

We’ll pay cashback once your payment goes through (not when you tap your card). This can happen instantly, but some merchants may take longer to collect your payment. We calculate your cashback as a percentage of the transaction value. If the cashback amount is exactly halfway between two cents, we round to the nearest cent. We’ll pay the cashback to a Reward Pot which you can access in your app. You can see how much cashback you’ve earned by checking your Reward Pot.

Where a transaction is reversed, refunded or cancelled you won’t earn cashback. If we’ve already paid you the cashback, we’ll take it back where the transaction is reversed, refunded or cancelled afterwards. There’s more about this in the ‘If we need to take back cashback’ section.

If you think you’re missing cashback, you’ll need to tell us within 60 days of you making the eligible transaction or completing your eligible action. You must report missing cashback through the app. You can do this in the cashback section or in the transaction details. If we decide you should’ve earned cashback, we’ll pay it to you.

If you close your Monzo account, you won’t get any cashback that we haven’t yet paid to you.

In order to earn cashback using your joint card, the cardholder must be eligible for this promotion. If only one of you is eligible for the offer, only that cardholder will earn cashback on payments made using their joint card. Where you are eligible to earn cashback by using your joint account card for payments, the cashback will be paid to the cardholder not the joint account.

If we need to take back cashback

We can take back cashback we’ve paid you in error and for transactions where you:

  • got a refund or disputed it later

  • acted fraudulently

  • otherwise misused or gamed the offer

If we need to do this, we'll take the amount from your cashback reward balance. If we are not able to take the full amount from your cashback reward balance, we'll take the full amount from your personal account, even if this takes you into an un-arranged overdraft. If this happens, we’ll tell you through the usual channels.

Making changes to these terms or the cashback offer

We can make changes from time to time to these terms or the cashback offer or to both. This includes changing eligible transactions, excluded transactions, cashback rates, caps, payment timing, the eligible subscription plans, or any other offer criteria.

When we tell you about the change will depend on the situation. If we make a change that’s favourable to you or is required by law or regulation, we’ll make it immediately and let you know.

For any other changes, we’ll give you at least 30 days notice. If you aren’t happy with a change, you can always withdraw from this offer by contacting us. If we don’t hear from you before the changes come into effect, we’ll assume you’re happy and accept the changes we’ve made.

Closing your account or ending cashback

These terms will automatically end if you or we close your Monzo account.

We can end these terms by giving you 30 days’ notice. We’ll only do this if:

  • we decide to stop offering cashback; or

  • we’re required to by law, regulation, industry codes, or a court, regulator or Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman decision.

We can stop this offer immediately if you seriously break these rules or if we suspect fraud.

What happens if these terms end?

Once these terms end, new purchases won’t be eligible for cashback and we’ll pay out any pending cashback to your account as normal.
