Getting help for financial essentials
If you are struggling with essential costs, there are many organisations in Ireland that can help.
Energy bills: Contact your energy provider first, as they can often provide emergency credit. For more information, visit the Citizens Information Board or the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS).
Food: Your local food bank can provide an emergency food parcel. You may need a referral from the Citizens Information Board to access this service.
Rent: For free advice and legal support, contact a housing charity like Focus Ireland or Simon Community.
Baby supplies: For support with essential baby items, contact a local baby bank. A national example is BabyBank Network Ireland. You may need a referral, so it’s best to speak with a healthcare visitor or social worker first.
Phone bill: The Citizens Information Board has information on what to do if you can't pay your phone bill.
As well as getting help from these organisations, you can also tell us directly about your situation. The most discreet way to do this is through our Share with us tool. If you’ve already filled this in, you don’t need to do it again – we’ll always follow up with you to discuss how we can help.
