Can I receive an international payment in an unsupported currency?

Receiving an international payment in an unsupported currency is unpredictable. There’s a chance the payment might not arrive at all, or it might arrive but be converted into a currency we do support by an intermediary during the transfer, resulting in additional fees by intermediary banks.

We recommend either having the payment converted to GBP first or a currency we do support

If you’re expecting to receive an international payment from someone in a currency we don’t support, we recommend they have it converted to British Pounds (GBP) or a currency we do support before sending.

Converting to GBP first This may mean the sender is charged a fee for currency conversion by their bank, but guarantees the payment will arrive. Because the currency has already been converted, we won’t charge you any fees when it arrives in your Monzo account.

Converting to another currency we support This could mean two separate currency conversion charges, one conversion for the sender which they may be charged for, and a 1% currency conversion charge by us. This option may work out cheaper than sending GBP in some cases.
