Accepting card payments with Stripe from a payment link

What is an online card payment?

Online card payments allow your customers to pay you by card for an amount you request. We've teamed up with Stripe, so to receive card payments, (including Apple Pay or Google Pay), you'll need to set up a Stripe account.

If your customers choose to pay by card, they will be asked for their card details and the amount you have requested will be charged on their card.

For the first payment you accept, it takes 7-14 working days for the money to arrive in your account, or if Stripe runs additional checks on the transaction.

After the first payment, the money should arrive in your account within a few working days.

For each online card payment, Stripe will charge:

  • £0.2 + 1.5% for standard UK cards

  • £0.2 + 1.9% for premium UK cards

  • £0.2 + 2.5% for European Economic Area cards

  • £0.2 + 3.25% for all other cards

Note: Stripe fees are different for contactless card payments.

We do not charge any fees on top of Stripe's (Stripe pays us a commission). This fee will be taken out of the incoming payment.

If you want to learn more about Stripe's fees, take a look at their website. To learn more about the differences between standard and premium cards take a look at Stripe's website.

Who are Stripe? What's their relationship to Monzo?

Stripe is a company that processes card payments for businesses. We have teamed up with them so you can accept card payments. To accept card payments and use Stripe’s payment processing services, you’ll need to apply for a Stripe account from the Monzo app and sign up to their Ts&Cs.

When your customers pay by card, Stripe moves the money from their account to yours. They'll also work with you to handle disputes and might also reach out to you with some additional questions to manage your account.

The money will go from your customer, to your Stripe account, and then to the bank account you've asked Stripe to send the money to.

Stripe will send you a transfer for all the money you've received in your Stripe account on a given day. So if for example 3 customers pay you in a day, they'll send you one transfer that combines all three amounts a few working days later.

Stripe will charge you a fee for processing card payments. They'll deduct the fee amount from the money that will arrive in your account. We don't charge any fees on top of Stripe's, but Stripe does pay us a commission.

You'll also be able to see your Stripe activity in Stripe's dashboard. If you have any questions or problems with your Stripe account, please reach out to Stripe directly. You can do that by logging into your [Stripe dashboard]( or by sending an email to support@stripe.com. You'll also be able to see your Stripe activity in Stripe's dashboard. So you know, closing your Stripe account won’t automatically end your relationship with us, but you won't be able to accept card payments anymore. And the other way around, closing your Monzo account won't automatically end your Stripe relationship.
