We may lock your money during a review

As a regulated bank, we sometimes need to carry out extra checks to make sure your account is safe. This may involve temporarily locking your money. When this happens, the locked amount is deducted from your balance and appears on your statement as ‘Locked by Monzo’.

During this time, there will be limits on your account:

  • Payment limits: You can spend or transfer up to €1,000 while the review is ongoing. If you can’t pay important bills, please let us know.

  • Receiving money: You won't be able to receive any money into your account. All payments will bounce back to the sender. If you are expecting to receive money, it’s best to make alternative arrangements with the sender until the review is complete.

We cannot give a specific timeline for how long a review will take, but please know we are working as quickly as we can and will give you an update when we have one. This process will not affect your credit history.
