Upgrading to a new account at 16-17

Once you've applied for your new account, we'll check your details. This usually takes between 5 minutes and an hour, but can take up to 48 hours. While you wait, you can use your Under 16s card as normal. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to approve online purchases in the app if you're logged out of the Under 16s account.

If your application is successful:

  • Transfer money. Ask your parent or guardian to move any money from the Under 16s account to your new one. They can do this from their app under Payments.

  • Update subscriptions. If you have any recurring payments on your Under 16s card, remember to set them up on your new card.

  • Enjoy your new account!

What happens to your Under 16s account?

The account can stay open until you're 18. If your application isn't successful, you can still use it. If the account is still open when you turn 18, the Under 16s card will stop working.

Not ready to upgrade?

You don’t have to change your account yet. Talk to a parent or guardian who can agree on what's best for you. Your Under 16s account will work until you are 18.
