Opening a Monzo joint account
Opening a joint account in Monzo is easy – no long forms, no hassle!
To open a joint account, you both need to already have Monzo accounts. Then you can follow these steps:
Go to the home page of your Monzo app
Tap the Profile picture icon in the top left corner
Scroll down and tap Apply for a joint account
ℹ️ Please note: At this time, we only offer joint accounts for Monzo customers who already have an open personal account. Once the joint account is open, we can’t close your personal account while leaving the joint account open. Both owners have equal access to the account - so if one of the account owner decides to close the account, it will close the account for both customers.
If your app isn’t showing the person that you want to open a joint account with, there’s a few things you should check.
Check that you are running the latest version of Monzo app
Ensure both you and the person you want to invite have enabled Find profile by phone number in your Monzo app settings, under Privacy & Security then Profile privacy
Make sure the person you are trying to invite has a US Monzo account, not a UK account
Double check that you have the exact same phone number in your phone’s contacts as the other Monzo customer has on file with us. Sometimes even a small difference, like adding/excluding a +1 country code at the start of a phone number, can cause issues
