What types of virtual cards does Monzo offer?
Monzo offers 3 types of virtual cards: Standard, Single-Use and Free Trial.
Standard Cards
Standard cards are most similar to a physical Monzo card. You can use them as often as you like at as many merchants as you want.
You can access the card until you choose to archive the card, or it reaches it’s expiration date.
Single-use Cards
Single-use cards are designed for purchases at stores and websites that you might not trust yet. By using a virtual card, you are adding an extra layer of protection to your account.
As soon the first purchase fully processes, the card will automatically cancel.
Free Trial Cards
Free trial cards provide a safety net for recurring subscriptions you might forget to cancel.
The card will stay active for 24 hours to allow merchants to process payments (like checking that you have an active card or charging a discounted rate) and then it will auto-cancel.
For all Monzo virtual cards, once the card is cancelled, we will decline any future charges that might come in. However, even if a card is cancelled, merchants may still charge you for unpaid balances. If there is an unpaid balance on a cancelled card, merchants can force a payment for the remaining amount, or can attempt to collect payment through external means.
Important Note: Our virtual cards are not meant as an alternative to cancelling unwanted subscriptions. The only way to cancel a subscription is by talking to the merchant directly and following their cancellation process. Always review the terms of any free trial you sign up for.
