Can I have both Monzo accounts in multiple countries?
At this time, we only allow customers to have Monzo accounts in one country at a time.
As an example: if you have a UK account you are allowed to have a UK personal account, a UK joint account, a UK business account, etc. - but you aren't able to open a US account alongside them.
While our accounts function similarly across all countries - opening an account in the correct country is important to make sure you can receive all deposits and make all payments that you need to.
In the future, we hope to allow more flexibility with having multiple accounts - though we don't have any timelines or additional details we can share.
Switching Monzo accounts
✈️ If you've moved and want to switch the country your account is based in, you need to close your existing Monzo account and then sign up for Monzo again.
When asked for an address, make sure you're providing an address in the country you want your account to be based in.
As long as your previous accounts are closed when you start signing up, we should be able to get your new account approved automatically.
You will also need to be eligible to have an account in the country you are creating an account for.
To be eligible for a US account, that means:
You're a full-time resident of the US (A US citizen or permanent resident)
You have a government issed SSN or ITIN
You have a residential address in the US (we can't accept PO Boxes, mail forwarding address, or business addresses)
Since you have to close the previous account first - we can't carry over anything from the previous account. That means we can't convert your balance or port over any recurring payments, and you will be sent a new Monzo card with a new card number.
