I shared a referral, why am I not earning cashback?

There can be a few reasons why you are not receiving the cashback promotion.

You should first confirm whether there is an active referral on your account. To check, tap the 🎁 icon in the Monzo app. If you have an active referral - you’ll see details of how much you’re earning, as well as the expiration date for that referral.

If you don’t see an active referral, t’s possible that the referral was not completed correctly - either by you or your friend.

  • If you sent a referral to someone, but they aren’t appearing in the list of referrals - that means they have not completed all of the steps correctly.

  • If you used a referral link to signup, but it isn’t showing an active referral - then you have not complete all the steps correctly.

You can view all the necessary steps complete a referral at any time by tapping the 🎁 icon in the Monzo app and viewing the “How it works” section. You’ll find a full breakdown of all the necessary steps to send and claim a referral.

We are not able to link a referral after it has been shared if the steps were not completed correctly.

If you confirmed that you have an active referral that was shared and completed correctly, then you may not be receiving cashback because:

  • You’ve reached the cashback limit. You’ll only earn cashback on the first $500 of card spend after making a referral (up to $25).

  • The purchase you made isn’t eligible for cashback. Ineligible purchases include:

    • P2P apps like Venmo, Cash App, Paypal, or Apple Cash

    • Crypto sites or apps

    • ATM (in network or out of network)

    • Gift cards

    • Gambling sites

    • Monzo instant transfers with friends

    • Any transaction made using your account/routing number

    • Transfers to linked bank accounts

    • Certain digital goods and professional services may not qualify.
