Identifying common scams

Impersonation Scams:

  • Family and friends: Fraudsters may pretend to be a loved one and ask you for money. If you’re unsure, contact them another way, like by phone or video call, to check the request is real.

  • Agencia Tributaria or the police: Agencia Tributaria and the Policía Nacional will not call you and pressure you to make a payment. If this happens, hang up straight away and contact them through their official website.

  • Internet providers or online stores: Fraudsters may say your account has been compromised and ask you to move your money. End the call and contact the company directly using details from its official website.

Investment Scams:

Fraudsters may promise very high returns for a small investment and pressure you to send larger amounts. Genuine investments do not work this way and will never guarantee profits.
