Opening a Monzo joint account

Opening a joint account in Monzo is easy – we don’t have any long forms, and don’t even need to do any new ID checks!

To open a joint account, you both need to already have Monzo accounts. Then you can follow these steps:

  1. In one of the open accounts, go to the home page of the Monzo app

  2. Tap the + icon in the top right corner of the screen

  3. Scroll down and tap Apply for a joint account

ℹ️ Please note: At this time, we only offer joint accounts for Monzo customers who already have an open personal account. And once the joint account is open, we aren’t able to close your personal account while leaving the joint account open. We are also not able to convert a joint account into a personal account - so if one of the account owner decides to close the account, it will close the account for both customers.

If your app isn’t showing the person that you want to open a joint account with, there’s a few things you should check.

  1. Check that you are running the latest version of Monzo app

  2. Ensure both you and the person you want to invite have enabled Find profile by phone number in your Monzo app settings, under Privacy & Security then Profile privacy

  3. Make sure the person you are trying to invite has a US Monzo account, not a UK account

  4. Double check that you have the exact same phone number in your phone’s contacts as the other Monzo customer has on file with us. Sometimes even a small difference, like adding/excluding a +1 country code at the start of a phone number, can cause issues
